This liquid lipstick is a special one. My boyfriend bought this one for me, and he’s so damn proud of himself! He went all by himself and picked this out because he knew I like MAC and he knew that I like liquid lipsticks. He really wanted me to review this one, so here we are!
For those who prefer timeless glamour to all-out flash, matte reigns supreme. M∙A∙C introduces a twist on this classic texture with robustly saturated shades of Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour. Whichever shade you choose, all promise one thing: a splash of colour in a liquid-suede finish that is impossible to forget.- MAC Cosmetics website
I never tried the Retro Matte liquid lipsticks, as I’ve heard that they were really drying, and as my lips are really dry to begin with, I didn’t want to take the risk! I was really surprised though when I tried this one out! They are really, really matte, yes, but they aren’t as drying as I thought! It feels quite comfortable on the lips even, maybe they changed the formula since I last heard about them. It does have a scent to it, it reminds me of a hospital, but it isn’t too noticeable and it doesn’t linger.
The colour is described as a deep true red, but it isn’t deep in my opinion. It is a really nice blue based red, which are my favourite! It’s extremely opaque, so be careful when you apply!!! It isn’t blotchy, applies really smoothly, and has a solid weartime of about 5 hours without smudging. It isn’t transfer proof, nor is it resilient against food and drinks, but it is better than the Colourpop liquid lipsticks, which are some of my favourites. But boy, when they say matte, they really mean matte! I never saw anything as matte on my lips, which was really interesting to see! I own quite a lot of matte lipsticks and liquid lipsticks, but this just looks a lot more matte for some weird reason.
They do dry out my lips a little bit, as it is a matte formula, but I take really good care of my lips and if you do too, it won’t show any dryness while you wear it.
Long story short, I really like this liquid lipstick and my boyfriend picked a great one! I’m really surprised by this one, a lot better than I thought it would be! I totally recommend trying this one out if you like bright red lippies and don’t mind the extremely matte look!
