Reading Wrap-Up: April 2019

Let’s talk about books! Let’s be real, that’s one of the few things I’m really good at, haha! Because of Saar’s illness, I didn’t really read this month. I much rather wanted to take care of her than to read, and after her passing I didn’t feel like it even more! But, I did read some books, so here we go!

Books read: 9 (classics: 1, ya: 1, non-fiction: 5, detective: 1, historical: 1)
Pages read: 1843
Stars: 1 (0), 2 (4), 3 (2), 4 (1), 5 (2)
Re-reads: 3

135314861950s Modern: British Style and Design by Susannah Walker
I’m usually Shire Library’s biggest fan. I just really love how informative they are in such a tiny package. Unfortunately, this one isn’t it. I learned absolutely nothing about the book and honestly, I forgot I even read it! I was really excited about it, but alas, this just wasn’t for me!
I gave it 2 stars on Goodreads.

33845743Continental Crimes edited by Martin Edwards
I try so hard to like detective short story collections, but I just don’t. I don’t know why, but not even Agatha Christie could save this book. The stories were incredibly boring and uninteresting and just not worth it in my opinion. I need to avoid them from now on, because I gave Martin Edwards too many chances. Granted, he didn’t write any of these, but he did chose to put all of these together in this book, so I blame him for choosing boring ass stories. I had to DNF it at about story number 4 or 5, I just couldn’t be bothered anymore!
I gave it 2 stars on Goodreads.

I wanted to like this one SO BAD. My baby cousin recommended this one to me, she said I would love it and I really thought I would. I didn’t though. Wow. One thing this book is good for: drinking games. Take a shot (of water naturally!!!!) whenever the author uses the main-characters name, Makepeace, you’ll be drunk (on water!!!!) by page 5. I just didn’t like it at all, it’s so boring??? I couldn’t take it anymore after page 50, I had to DNF it unfortunately, but I wanted to, SO BADLY.
I gave it 2 stars on Goodreads.

846044the Whispering Statue by Carolyn Keene
This wasn’t my favourite Nancy Drew, it was a fun one, but it wasn’t one of the better ones. I don’t have much to say about it honestly, as it’s just meh.
I gave it 2 stars on Goodreads.

26786860Fashion: a History from the 18th to the 20th Century by the Kyoto Fashion Institute
This is an amazing visual history on fashion. Amazing images, amazing collections, amazing everything. I totally recommend this if you want a visual history! I keep insisting on it being a ‘visual’ history because you won’t actually learn a lot from it, but it looks really pretty, I can tell you that! 😉
I gave it 5 stars on Goodreads and you can get yours here!

751233.jpgBetty Crocker’s Cook Book for Boys and Girls
This is such a cute cookbook! I love how it involves boys as well, as most books don’t involve boys into cooking. Ridiculous, but true. It’s adorable and has some cute recipes, but they aren’t very healthy. 😉
I gave it 3 stars on Goodreads and you can get yours here!

17981367Vintage Secrets: Hollywood Beauty by Laura Slater
This will always be one of my favourite beauty books. It’s so incredibly informative, fun, and just great! If you love old Hollywood and beauty, this will be your new bible. I can’t express how much I love it! I totally recommend this to everyone, but especially if you are studying to be a make-up artist!
I gave it 5 stars on Goodreads and you can get yours here.

I didn’t mention two of the books I re-read, as I read 1950s Fashion in December, and I’ve read Little Women more than any other book!

What were some of the books you read this month? 🙂
