Tag: the Unpopular Opinion Book Tag

Sometimes, I wish there was more negativity in the book community. I love it when people talk about the books they love, I do so as well, but we don’t talk about the books we don’t like, and we should do that too! So, without any further ado, here are my unpopular book opinions!

What is a popular book or series that you didn’t like?
Harry Potter! It’s not that I think they are bad, I just don’t like it as much as other people do. I did enjoy them when I read them, but I don’t really care for reading them again, nor do I care for the movies or anything like that. There are tons of books that are way better than HP., like Nevermoor for example. I also really didn’t like the second book from the Stalking Jack the Ripper series, I actually DNF’ed it after about 40 pages, because the Fake Feminism was too real for me.

What is a popular book or series that everyone else seems to hate but you love?
I actually have no idea! I haven’t come across people who actually dislike the things I read, haha!

What is a love triangle in a book or series where the main character ended up with the person you did not want them to end up with?
Like, all of them??? I don’t like romance in books, at all, so I tend to dislike all the options, lol. I honestly didn’t like who Jackaby ended up with in the Jackaby series. I won’t spoil, but it felt incredibly forced and unnecessary for him to be in a relationship. It was literally added in the last book and it felt so unnatural and just plain stupid.

What is a popular book genre that you hardly reach for?
Sci-fi and romance! The most romance-y books I read are Patricia Wentworth books, which are detectives and there’s more death and despair in them than there is romance. I just can’t stand the lovey-dovey stuff, and don’t get me started on books with Adult Content™ I don’t even read any books with that, because I Do Not Care About Your Peaches and Eggplants.
I don’t have anything against sci-fi, I just haven’t really found a lot that I’m interested in!

What is a popular or beloved character that you do not like?
I’ll try to not add characters from books I already said (ahum Harry Potter & Audrey Rose ahum) but I do not like Mary Poppins at all! I loved the original Disney movie, and as an au pair I imagined I would love the books, but my heavens, Mary Poppins is a horrid person and I don’t understand why people like her!! She’s the worst person to take care of children I’ve ever come across and just ????? I’m so confused about her!!

Who is a popular author that you can’t seem to get into?
Holly Black. I do not care for her writing, she’s overrated as heck. I read 2 books by her, and both of them were said to be scary, but they weren’t ???? At all??? They were highly predictable and just plain boring???? Yes I do understand that different people have different opinions, but honestly, I’m tired of everyone on Booktube being all like she’s the best thing since air.

What is a popular book trope that you are tired of seeing?
If you still aren’t aware, I’d say romance in books where it isn’t necessary. Also, stop killing your gays, authors!!!!

What is a popular book or series that you have no interest in reading?
Absolutely everything written by Sarah J. Maas.

What is a movie or TV show adaption of a book or series that you like more than the book/s?
Johnathan Strange and Mister Norrell! I loved the series so much I wanted to read the book because I wanted more, but it’s taken me three years to even get past 500 pages and I gave up, because the book itself is so boring. There’s also about 34000 footnotes in the book, which aren’t even useful! In case you wanted to watch some GOOD adaptions, I recommend the Moonstone adaption and the Bookthief, they are GEMS.

I basically wanted to add emoji’s to all of these answers, but let’s not do that hahaha. I hope you enjoyed my unpopular opinions, and I can’t wait to read yours!!

  1. One of my unpopular opinions is that I cannot get into John Green’s books. I’ve read The Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns and I preferred the movies over the books. And I agree about Mary Poppins! I started listening to the audiobook once (did not finish it) and I was surprised by how horrible she was.
