Spoopy Books Recommendations!

Ok, it’s October and everyone and their mum has the Spoop on their brain. Halloween isn’t a thing in the Netherlands, but I’m feeling it thanks to all the American booktubers I follow! So, let’s get started with some spoopy books I recommend, in case you want to join in the fun! 🙂

The books for people who want to get into the mood, but don’t like to be scared
563772The Gashlycrumb Tinies by Edward Gorey
A creepy alphabet with some very unfortunate children. Creepy, cute, and certain to put you into the mood for some spoopy action!

34349672B is for Boo by Greg Paprocki
These alphabet books are my absolute favourite! B is for Boo is the perfect Haloween alphabet book, it’s all about the creepy creatures of the night such as vampires and witches. Not only cute to share with children, but honestly, it looks really good in the your bookcase as well. 😉

Books for people who aren’t into thrillers but want to know more!20729814
The Art of English Murder by Lucy Worsley
This is my absolute favourite non-fiction about death. I’ve read quite a few (yep, I have!) and this one is the most informative, fun, and not boring out of all of them! It’s really complete, but be warned, it will spoil some detective series for you, but if you skip that part it’s honestly my number one recommended book about murder!

28926466Morbid Curiosities – Collections of the Uncommon and the Bizarre by Paul Gambino
This is a book full of people with creepy collections! Some people are absolute assholes (honestly, you can tell), but some of these collections are really gross and cool. I don’t like mummies and there are quite a few of them in it, but if there was ever a Halloween-y book, it’s this!

For the people who want atmospheric creepiness
36697848the Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw
Ok, this one isn’t that uncommon, you probably heard about this one before, but this is such A GREAT book. Incredibly atmospheric, great for those nights where the rain is ticking at the window. I’ve got a review on the book here, but I really recommend this one! It isn’t too scary but a lot of fun.

For the people who like psychological creepiness best!
3862390Thérèse Raquin by Émile Zola
What happens with you when you murder someone to be with the one you love? That’s the whole question behind this amazing book. The murder isn’t too gruesome (even though this book caused a huge uproar at time of publication!), but the psychological aspect what murdering someone does to you is amazingly done throughout this book! When I finished it I had to put it down and stare at the wall for 5 minutes because it was just that amazing, haha. I’ve got a full review here!

21068164and Then There were None by Agatha Christie
I couldn’t write a list of books without mentioning Agatha Christie at least once. I’ve read more than 30 of her books, and this one is by far my favourite. It keeps you on the edge of your seat! Ten strangers are left on an island and slowly, one by one, they all get killed… Who is the murderer? And why do they have to die? Honestly, an amazing book and if you are going to read one of these books, try this one!

For the people who want to feel creepy, but like supernatural stuff better!
6687860.jpgthe Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
Can we talk about creepy books without talking about Neil Gaiman? No. The Graveyard Book is an amazing children’s book about a boy who gets raised at a graveyard by ghosts because his family got murdered. What a premise for a book! This book gave me everything what I love in children’s books, ridiculous, fun, hilarious, creepy, and I might have shed a tear or two! A really fun book that will definitely get you into the mood.

24001101.jpgJackaby by William Ritter
I love this series! It’s ridiculous and whimsical, about our main guy Jackaby, a paranormal investigator and his assistant Abigail. The book is described as Sherlock Holmes meets Supernatural and even though I’ve never watched the series, it peaked my interest! If you love fae, vampires, werewolves and all kinds of creepy creatures this is the series for you! They aren’t well written, at all, but it’s just so much fun and I’m really sad the series is over! But on the plus side, you’ve got 4 books to read about a guy kicking some gnome butt! 😉

What are your favourite books to read during the spoopy season?
