How to read more!

I love to read. And I read a lot. I finished my 25th book of the year on the 24th of March, so yes, I read a lot! I asked you guys on Instagram whether I should write a post about how to read more, and most of you said yes, so here we go! Most of these seem like they are quite obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people get an aha moment when I tell them what my ways are to read more!

Read by mood
I’m a mood reader. I don’t like to set myself a TBR because I don’t want to force myself to read something I don’t feel like reading! If I read like that, I’m less likely to read, I’m more reluctant to pick up a book and just feel like it’s a chore.  If I feel like reading something short and sweet, I will pick that up. If I feel like a classics, I will read that! Don’t force yourself to read anything you don’t want to! Unless it’s for school, finish your homework kids!

Make time to read
It sounds so stupidly obvious, but make time to read guys! I love to read in the bath, so I take books with me when I take one. Try reading before bedtime, even if it’s only 10 minutes, that’s 10 minutes spend reading. I also read on my commute to work, which is only 15 minutes by train, but again, that’s 15 minutes I spend reading! Instead of watching a movie at night, why don’t you pick up that one book you wanted to read? Honestly, reading lots has more to do with wanting to read, the reason why you aren’t reading as much is most likely because you don’t really want to. Which is OK! Sometimes I much rather watch youtube in the bath instead of reading, but if you aren’t picking up that book, you never will. If you don’t start reading, it’ll never happen, so just pick it up guys. Pick it up now!

Be realistic
I don’t read a lot of big books, because I know I just can’t read them. I feel really unmotivated to read big boos, hence why I’ve been trying to finish Johnathan Strange and Mister Norrell for about 2 years now… But guys, be realistic. If you like to read books that have 500+ pages, don’t expect to read as many as someone who likes to read books that are under 200 pages. Though, if you make the time for it you could possibly read more! 😉 If you have a very busy life, don’t expect to read more than 50 books in a year, because you are only going to disappoint yourself! I don’t have a busy life, so I’m able to read 20 books in about 2 months. If your goal is to read 10 books in a year, go you! You read those 10 books!

“A book is a book, no matter how small”, is my philosophy. A picture book is still a book, so if you want to “cheat” (which I don’t count as cheating, a page read is a page read!) read picture books or children’s books! Also, guess what, comics are books too. Oh, and cooking books too. Oh, and photography books are still books! The shortest book I read so far is about 20 pages, but it’s still a book guys, no wonder I can read so many!

Audio books
Ok, so, you do every thing I all ready talked about, but what if you have to drive to work? Or you can’t read in a moving vehicle? Audio books are your best friend. I don’t have any personal experience, as I prefer to read books instead of listen to them, but my parents did use audio books in the car if we were in the car for long periods of time. Audio books are still books, you just listen to the words instead of reading them, and there’s no shame in that. I mean, the invention is amazing for not only people who are busy, but also for people with really bad eyesight or are blind, why shame it?

I guess these are the only few tips I have! I know they are quite obvious, but you know, sometimes you need the obvious to do something. Do you have any tips on how to read more?
