Review: How to be a Victorian by Ruth Goodman

20160704_115559

I love history, and especially the Victorian era. Yes, I’m one of those people. What I’m not a fan of, are non-fiction books written as if no one had any joy in writing them. And that’s how How to be a Victorian is different!

This book is all about the life of ORDINARY Victorians. Which is something not often talked about. We all know (something) about Queen Victoria and her life, and the nobles among her, but the normal people? Nope. Nothing.

And this is why this book is so great: Ruth Goodman has LIVED the Victorian life for a year. She lived EXACTLY like them. She didn’t just open three books about the Victorian life and wrote this book, no, she experienced it first hand. That’s why this book is so enjoyable to read, it talks about e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. Want to know what the Victorians did to clean their house? How they got dressed? How they even got clothes? How they lived? Than you definitely need to read this book!
